When you use Kari, we process the following data:

• Account data — Email address and password (hashed) at registration. When signing in via Google: name and profile picture URL as provided by Google.
• Profile information — Display name (optional, chosen by you).
• Group & family data — Family name, invite code, membership, and role (admin/member).
• Recipe data — Titles, ingredients, preparation steps, tags, ratings, and notes created by you or your group members.
• Images — Recipe photos you upload or generate via import.
• Meal plan & shopping list — Meal planning entries, shopping list items, and freezer entries for your group.
• Device token — Your device's Expo push token when you enable push notifications.
• Usage counters — Number of recipe imports per month (for free-tier limits).

• Providing app functionality (recipe management, meal planning, shopping lists)
• Authentication and account management
• Delivering push notifications (e.g. daily reminders, shared recipes)
• Enforcing usage quotas (free/pro tier)
• Recipe import via URL, social media, photo scan (OCR) and AI text analysis

We use the following third-party services to operate the app:

• Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) — data is processed on Supabase Inc. servers.
• Google Cloud Vision API — for OCR text recognition when scanning recipe photos. The image is transmitted to Google.
• OpenAI API — for AI-powered structuring of recipe text. Text content is transmitted to OpenAI.
• Apify — for importing recipes from Instagram. The URL is transmitted to Apify.
• RevenueCat — for managing in-app purchases and subscriptions.
• Expo (EAS) — for delivering push notifications via the Expo push service.
• Google Sign-In — optional login via Google OAuth.

We do not sell your data. Personal data is only shared with third-party providers to the extent necessary to provide the features described above. We do not share data for advertising or marketing purposes.

Your data is stored as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app settings. This permanently removes all personal data and — if you are the last group member — all group data as well.

You have the right to access, rectify, delete, and port your personal data. Contact us at hello@withkari.com.

The app may request the following device permissions:

• Camera — to scan recipe pages (OCR)
• Photo library — to select recipe images
• Notifications — for daily reminders and shared recipe alerts
• Internet — to communicate with the backend

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The current version is always available in the app and on this page.
